My two-ingredient treat

A snap-your-fingers-and-it's-done treat that's also good for your gut? This, my friends, is it. Silky like mousse, this combination of coconut yoghurt and raw cacao will satisfy chocolate cravings and feed good gut bacteria in the process. Win-win.

Make sure you get an unsweetened yoghurt that contains good bacteria, and no weird fillers. Raw cacao is a prebiotic, meaning it contains fibre that passes straight through the digestive tract to the large intestine, where it fuels probiotics in the gut.

Feel free to pimp this basic recipe in any which way: toppings, spices, fruit, essences. Replace the coconut yoghurt with a good-quality bacteria-rich dairy yoghurt if you prefer.

My two-ingredient treat

Serves 1

  • 1/2 cup x coconut yoghurt
  • 1 TBSP x raw cacao powder
  • Optional extras: a touch of your favourite sweetener (honey or stevia, for me), sprinkling of cacao nibs or dried coconut, fresh berries, orange zest, a pinch of spice or dash of flavour (cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, peppermint essence), some nuts, pinch of sea salt. Or whatever other yummies you can think of

Instructions

Spoon the yoghurt into a small bowl. Use a sieve to sprinkle over the cacao powder (otherwise you'll get clumps). Add in another extras, if using, then whip until smooth and serve.
